Roger was always simply the wisest person in the room. Of course, he had exceptional professional skills. He was also utterly dedicated to the cause of public service journalism. But, as I recall him now, it is his human qualities that stand out - calmness, consideration, judiciousness and wit. You felt that his advice on any programme was the distillation of a wisdom that we might all aspire to. He contributed so much to many people, including viewers who never knew him. Rest calmly, Roger.
